Week 2: More thinking

Forming my idea around my project, 'Sculpting Perceptions,' I considered how I could focus on the aspect of perception. To further understand the meaning of perception: it is the process through which organisms interpret and understand sensory information to make sense of the world around them. It involves the brain's processing of sensory inputs such as sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell to create a coherent mental representation of the environment. Perception is influenced by various factors including past experiences, expectations, and context, leading to subjective interpretations of sensory stimuli.

I feel that this keyword is what I am looking for and will stick to, as my sensory experiences differ from others'. For example, people who do not understand why I do not like to touch plants. This made me ponder over my childhood, if I did not have much sensory play as it only developed later on in life. This topic of interest sparked my curiosity, and I see potential in finding out more.

Also, in the context of not only talking about myself, the advancement of technology in recent years has caused me or people in general to interact less with nature and more with our screens. This is a bigger picture that I can draw from, especially in design where craft is still around but has been largely taken over by digital media or even 3D banners.

Searching for Inspiration

From last week's consultation, we discussed that for my prototype, I needed to focus on coding, interaction, testing, and the making aspect. So far, I have been working on the code from time to time. Today, I went to Pinterest to draw some inspiration for the 'making' part. I feel somewhat intimidated by the making process, as I am not the best at building or making sculptures. This could either go well or poorly. However, if all else fails, I can still consider 3D printing, which I hope won't be necessary.

Actually, with the thought of 3D printing, using technology to create the physical texture, will that be contradicting my goal of bridging the divide between the physical and digital aspects?

Also, when considering the making process, I need to think about the materials. I can draw some inspiration from semester one for this. My aim is to create both a visually striking and a visually pleasing piece to showcase the contrast in how people perceive textures.

A few images taken from pinterest that i enjoyed

What i enjoyed from these images is how from just visually looking at it, I can roughly get a sense of how ot feels like. Like the random organic blobs looks satosfying to tiuch whereas the spikey ones looks kinda nasty when felt. I also feel the objects does not have to particularly look like anything specific as it is just the artist creation to illicit such reactions and based on how people would percieve them but is think is cool!

Overall, I am unsure if this is the visual I will stick with or not but it was vousally stimulating that kept me continously scrolling through pinterest. Also with thesevisuals, sonething I havr to keep in mind is also how can I visually replicate these on code.
