P5.js Explorations

In preparation for open studios. I had to figure out on generating more sketches on p5.js and consider the visuals.

Making of Worms

The texture inspired by insects was chosen for its ability to evoke strong emotions and reactions, particularly feelings of discomfort or fear. This texture was selected based on the universal sentiment many people share towards insects, avoiding contact with them due to their appearance, movements, or associations with dirt and disease. By incorporating this texture into the project, it aims to evoke a visceral response from viewers, tapping into a common fear or aversion and creating a memorable and impactful experience. Additionally, the inspiration drawn from a social media video highlights the contemporary nature of the choice, reflecting current trends and interests that resonate with a wide audience.

Also I remember when I was young in primary school we had to take care of meal worms but i dont remember the purpose of doing so. Anyways becasue of that everytime I walk past an aquarium I will look away and walk away quickly as it always gives me goosebuumps.

How to make?

For this project, I used air-dry clay. Initially, I thought of cutting up small round clay pieces, but when sticking them together, they didn't have the same effect. Seeking inspiration, I found a textured paper from semester one. I then decided to roll the clay over the paper, and true enough, it does mimic the look of the worm in the video. Overall, for this project, rather than purchasing specific materials, I tried to scavenge for textures that could be used from my surroundings, as they are associated with everyday life.

Displaying of Worms

To make the clay worm conductive, I painted a coat of conductive paint over them. I purposely missed out some white spots as I wished to have the grey color peek out, enhancing the texture. However, I painted one small worm all black, which made it hard to see its details. While I was outside collecting stones and rocks for my texture impressions, I managed to find one that fit the overall aesthetics of a worm house. I also used the same fake grass as my base from last semester.
